Brinda Taneja

Hello! My name is Brinda Taneja, and I am a Toronto-based South Asian artist whose work investigates memory, place, and power through a diasporic and socio-historical lens. In my practice, I work across painting, photo-based collage, and archival research, while tracing the layered geographies of Toronto by examining the erasures that occur under the language of progress, development, and revitalization. Visually, I often work with primary colour schemes to create bold, direct compositions that echo the graphic language of signage, media, and public space.

I am currently pursuing a joint degree in Fine Arts and History at York University, where I am able to integrate academic research with artistic inquiry. My practice draws from historical analysis, contemporary politics, and lived experience, forming a dialogue between past and present, personal and structural. Through this interdisciplinary approach, I seek to create work that acts as both testimony and critique, mapping displacement, resilience, and belonging while imagining more equitable futures.
